Billing & Quotas

How Vellumine bills you, what's included in each plan, and how the per-post overage works.

Vellumine bills per user account, with per-tier limits on the number of collections you can create and a post quota that's shared across all of your collections. If you go beyond the included quota, you pay a small per-post overage rate; you only pay for what you actually use.

Vellumine currently offers monthly billing only for self-serve plans. If your publication has 30,000 or more posts and pages, contact us for a custom plan.

Pro and Growth include semantic/hybrid search. Posts in semantic-enabled collections that exceed your plan's included quota incur an additional $0.001/post/month on top of the standard $0.002/post overage. Posts within the included quota are free regardless of whether hybrid search is enabled.

Growth also includes advanced search filters, which let readers refine search results by tag, author, publication date, and sort order when enabled on a collection.

Posts pool

The "posts included" quota is pooled across every collection you own. For example, if you're on Pro (5,000 included posts) and you have three collections with 1,200, 800, and 2,500 posts, your total is 4,500 posts — well within the included quota, no overage.

Overage pricing

Beyond the included quota, every additional indexed post costs $0.002 per month. So:

  • 500 extra posts → $1.00/month
  • 1,000 extra posts → $2.00/month
  • 2,000 extra posts → $4.00/month

Overage is calculated against the highest post total Vellumine observes for your account during the monthly billing period and added to your invoice at the end of that period. Posts you remove from your blog reduce your overage on the next reporting cycle.

Collection limits

Each plan caps the number of collections you can create:

  • Starter: 1 collection (1,000 posts, 3 months retention)
  • Pro: 3 collections (5,000 posts, 1 year retention)
  • Growth: 10 collections (15,000 posts, 3 years retention)

If you try to create another collection beyond your tier's limit, Vellumine will redirect you to the plans page so you can upgrade.

If you schedule a downgrade to a plan with a lower collection limit, you must first delete collections until your account is within the target plan's limit. Once a downgrade is scheduled, that target limit also applies to creating new collections, even before the downgrade takes effect.

Where to manage your subscription

You can manage your subscription, view invoices, and update your payment method from the Billing link in your account menu, which opens the Polar customer portal.
